Whether you want to use Apple Maps mobility trends data for professional use during the pandemic, or if you’re just curious on a personal level about how the movement has changed in different cities around the world, read on how you can see the mobility trends from Can use Apple Maps.
As early as April, Apple made its data on mobility trends available with Apple Maps. The idea behind the resource is to enable local health authorities to make more informed decisions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
After first launching for limited cities around the world, Apple expanded data on mobility trends significantly earlier this month to cover all U.S. states and more cities and regions around the world.
Apple updates the data daily, reflecting the directions used in Apple Maps, and you can access it on any device over the Internet.
Use of data on mobility trends from Apple Maps
- Visit the Apple website for Mobility trends from Apple Maps
- Some general data for the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany appears on the landing page
- Use the search bar to search for a specific country, state, or city
- If necessary, find the full record at the bottom of the website and look for the blue button
Apple underlines its commitment to privacy at the bottom of the mobility trends website:
Data protection is a fundamental human right. At Apple, this is also one of our core values, so Maps doesn’t link your data to your Apple ID and Apple doesn’t keep a history of where you were.
This data is generated by counting the number of requests to Apple Maps for directions in selected countries / regions, sub-regions and cities. Data sent from users’ devices to the map service is associated with random, rotating identifiers, so Apple doesn’t have a profile of your movements and searches. The availability of data in a particular country / region, sub-region, or city is based on a number of factors, including minimum thresholds for directional requests per day.
To improve this website, Apple collects some information about how to use it. You do not personally identify the information collected.
